Collage Art • Circus Freaks in Mind

I frequently go to antique malls and look for rare finds and unique items and always run into old family photos. I always wonder how such treasures were lost to the families they once belonged to.
My favorite photos to run into are the ones that are unusual. Such as the circus folk, or "freaks" as they used to be called. These people are my amazingly brave and I can only image the life they led. Such fascinating stores that mush go with each of these kind of photos I am sure.
I made this collage piece while thinking of these images, and the people that are in those circus, freak shows, and oddities imagery. I think if anything, they were beautiful in their own ways.

Deer Season is Coming! • Run My Little Friends

This is the first year my husband, Ryan, is trying hunting. I am not thrilled about that, but I guess I can think of it as population control and just think, after they die we can't let it go to waist. Deer are so cute, I don't know how I will eat such a sweet animal. (Me being very bias...) I eat me some chicken daily! They should be no less,... but they aren't cute to me, so I don't feel as bad. That's awful! I should feel the same either way. And cow,.... well, I see those on my way to work very close daily, can't eat those either. They are just as cute.

I was lucky enough to get to design this amazing collection at work and couldn't wait to share it! I had so much fun collaborating the artwork with the colors I was given and the amazing inspirational photos I got. The theme was "Cape Cod" type of style. Upscale beach house meets sophisticated travel. I think we nailed it. I hate tooting my own horn but, I love this collection!

My Husband the big Graduate! • FINALLY, Yay!

It's been a long time coming, but it is finally here. Ryan graduated last month with his degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Kansas City - Missouri.

Don't ask me how, but he already got a job too! So, we are very lucky and couldn't have even imagined that he would have a job this soon. I told him his Navy experience would give him an advantage. I'm sure making the Dean's List his last semester helped. I am so proud of him. Here are a few photos of his big day. Him showing off his ring for the Society of Engineers and a few other shots of his engineering group he graduated with and him walking.

I love the way the product was shown off here, wood butterflies and bird cages hanging from necklaces on adorable french style dress forms. It's hard to see in the photo, but there are tiny metal butterflies and dragonflies on the necklace too. Both product for sale in the booth. Very cute idea.

It's so sweet with all it's little florals and the details like rounding the edges and that adorable doily. Great inspiration for doing my very own quilt. I have been collecting fabrics I like at thrift stores and saving them for a large quilt for my bedroom. I hope it turns out as cute as this one.

Do you guys see these three small orbs next to the table at the bottom? I took this photo after Chewy was looking all around in the air and in the front hallway and every where acting like there was something there. Sure enough, here are three little orbs. It could be dust.... but it could be something more.....? Who knows! I can only wish it's my kitty, Butter, I lost last February. It made me smile when I thought it could be her.

So, I really like this old fan, it's pretty and unique. Love the way it looks,.... but my husband said, "why do you have an old fan that doesn't more the air very much at all?" Now, how do I explain to him that it's about the looks and the nostalgia of the piece that makes it something I want to look at often and be surrounded with? Sometimes it's okay to just be pretty. I made this pattern last year, and I don't think I ever shared it. I was thinking it would make a cute pillow or fabric. I think there are places online where you can send your artwork and they will print so many yards for you, I just might do that once my husband gets done with school and we get a new house and I can decorate a new place. I love the little deer and flowers in it. Should I do it in color or just two color?

Summer CHA 2010 with Pink Paislee

These are a few photos from the Summer CHA 2010 show I went to at the end of July. I had so much fun helping out and meeting people. Don't get me wrong it was hard work, but very worth it. The booth looked so gorgeous and I learned a lot. I got to meet some of our Pink Paislee design team girls, and I even got to meet the ladies from the House of 3. It was so fun and exciting to be taking part in such a fun event. I'm already excited about the next show!

Here are some of the photos I took this spring of the peonies from my backyard. I miss them. I miss waking up to that sweet strong fragrance on my nightstand every morning. Now summer is here and there are fewer and fewer flowers in my backyard. I need to bring some in that bloom in summer and late summer. All the day lillies are finishing up as well. All I have left are the hosta flowers. But, they are pretty.

I got the brooch on the left at the Crafty Chicks show, if has made me decide to try making some of my own. I found vintage fabric at Savers Thrift store and layered those like the one I bought last year. Added a few feathers, and a marble style blue button in the middle. Very cute. What do you think?

My Thrift Store Finds of the Week!

So, I already have a old industrial 50' style tan chair at home I use at my computer, but when I saw this in the store I had to have it. It was $1.89, seriously. How could I not get it? Well... I like it. The guy at the store looked at me like I am crazy.

I also found this cute little wood apple. It says apple of my eye on the leaf and blue ribbon 1st prize on the front. Too cute. Looks great next to my sweet peony I cut this morning. I just love peonies. Oh, yum! They make the whole house smell wonderfully delightful!

Taking Advantage of the Long Loney Nights without Ryan Home

Okay, so I found this adorable little Stationary Gift Set in a sweet little magnetic close box at Target. It's part of the Liberty of London for Target Collection. They also had boxes and file storage boxes. I thought they were so cute, I bought them and am going to duplicate with my own artwork. Will be nice to see what my art would look like in this kind of setting. I am still a long way off from that, but it's nice to dream.

I must say though, it looks nice. I am putting all those mocking-up skills learned into good use!
To modge podge over this or not? Id like it to stay clean and nice so that might be the best way. Just love the way the purple strips turned out. So cute!

I will have the inside parts, cards, stationary etc. in there the next post. Maybe some cards with peonies and poppies? Purple and orange? Could be cute! We will see. I'll have to glitter them for sure!

Okay folks here are the images of the new Starlight Mini Collection from Pink Paislee! It's on sale now! We sprinkled in the ledger paper in a little bit on papers here and there and we even did a reverse ledger with dark red and navy blue! Very cute. I hope you all like.

You get 5 double sided cardstock papers and one die cut cardstock paper along with two sticker sheets that are 12 x 12, one regular cardstock sticker two ledger alphabets and one glittered cardstock sticker elements. Ir really is a nice little line to release right now with father's day coming and the 4th of July coming. It is very basic, not tired into any one theme. Features stars, strips, but not any defining words like Happy 4th of July, or Father's Day. Could even be used for a great Graduation party layout!

Sold my little mini Olympia Typewriter

This cute little typewriter went a few weeks ago and I am so glad it ended up at a good home. The guy that bought it was real happy with the shape it was in when he got it. This little etsy shop I opened for the summer has been going quit well. Most people are liking the items and liking the prices. But, you always have some people out there that try to haggle you down more. I know, I do the same thing when I go to flea markets. You gotta try.

See the shop for fun vintage items I like. I buy the things I can use in my house and things I like. And if they sell, then I have to part with them. But, I do truly love all the things I buy. They are dirt cheap and make me smile. The kind of shopping sprees a can afford.

My husband has left for an internship this summer lasting 3 months in New York. It's going to be a lonely summer, but I will be dedicating that extra time to my illustration & design work. I hope that he learns a lot while interning for the engineering company, and he comes home full of knowledge to help him find a job once he graduated this next summer. He worked so hard to get this internship and I am so happy for him. Good luck, Ryan. All your hard work will soon be worth it.

Any Pcos Friends out there?

I was wondering if there were any other Polycystic Ovary Syndrome sufferers out there looking for alternatives to plastic items for drinking and eating. I myself, have come up with the solution of just using old pyrex frig containers instead of plastic ones that can leach into your food. I also have found many stainless steel containers with non leaching plastics. But, the best find for me so far would have to be http://www.glassdharma.com/

They have come up with glass straws that make it so easy to get all your water intake in and still not use plastic straws. The straws make getting the water needed so much faster, and avoids sensitive teeth altogether. Perfect for the PCOS girl.

Flea Market Finds Inspired Me

I have been trying to come up with different ideas for new scrapbooking lines and was inspired by all my photographs from flea markets. Not so sure if anyone would really buy a scrapbook line that had a theme of flea market, but I do wonder.

The patterned papers could be reproductions of vintage fabrics with a twist, and the embellishments could be plays on things you might find at a flea market... Vintage plastic letters, screenprinted mirrors, bottlecaps, unique old fashioned buttons made into flowers with some sort of fabric that looks old.

I think I would by this line just for the ability to scrapbook my fun times I have had with friends going to flea markets. I have a few friends that like going too, and we make a whole day of it. I wonder if anyone else does? Would you use this kinda line?
